If you are not under the care of an OB provider, our center can conduct a free limited obstetric (OB) ultrasound exam after an on-site positive pregnancy test. This means the ultrasound exam will be limited to imaging your pregnancy to determine the location of the embryo/fetus, its gestational age, the estimated due date, its fetal heart rate and to determine if there is more than one baby.
Care Net IRC provides both transabdominal and transvaginal exams during the first trimester free of charge. We also can perform limited OB transabdominal ultrasound exams if you are in your 2nd or 3rd trimester, only if you have yet to start prenatal care with an OB provider.

Currently, abortion is illegal in Florida past 6 weeks gestation, when the fetal heartbeat can first be detected by ultrasound. Exceptions can be made in cases of rape, incest, and human trafficking.
Those experiencing an unplanned pregnancy have several options, which include abortion, adoption, or parenting. If you are considering any of these options, please call 772-569-7939 to schedule an appointment to receive the support and information you need to make an informed decision.
- confirming you are pregnant.
- determining by ultrasound imaging if the pregnancy is viable and forming inside your uterus.
- determining if there is only one embryo/fetus.
- determining how far along you are and your estimated due date.
Ultrasound technology is able to detect a beating heart as early as 5 weeks 5 days after the first day of your last period, when the embryo is about 3 millimeters in length, which is smaller than the distance across your pinky nail (width-wise).
If you are a minor (17 or younger) in the State of Florida, you would need parental consent (or legal guardian) to have an abortion.
You do not need parental consent (nor legal guardian consent) to come to Care Net IRC. Florida law states that as a pregnant minor, you may consent to having medical services pertaining to your pregnancy with the exception of terminating the pregnancy. Per Florida law, as a pregnant minor, you would need parental consent (or legal guardian consent) to have an abortion.
An ectopic pregnancy is a pregnancy happening in the wrong place. The fertilized egg needs to attach itself in the endometrial lining inside the uterus for the pregnancy to progress and the baby to grow. An ectopic pregnancy means the fertilized egg attached itself some place other than in the uterus.
March of Dimes’ statistics report that 1 in 50 pregnancies occur in a fallopian tube, meaning the fertilized egg attaches to the wall of the fallopian tube and the baby starts growing in the wrong place. This is also called a “tubal pregnancy”. In rare occurrences, an ectopic pregnancy can involve an ovary or some other location inside the body.
The most common symptoms of an ectopic pregnancy are sharp pelvic pain (often on one side), pain in the shoulder (often left shoulder tip), vaginal bleeding, and lower abdominal pressure. If you are experiencing these symptoms, you need to go to the Emergency Room right away to be seen by a doctor. Ectopic pregnancies are life-threatening to a woman.
Only the uterus has the nutrient-rich tissue and environment necessary for the pregnancy to progress. Also it is not possible for doctors to detach the baby from the ectopic location and reattach it inside the uterus. Sadly, an ectopic pregnancy is fatal for the baby.
Ultrasound technology is used in diagnosing an ectopic pregnancy. By having a limited OB ultrasound at Care Net IRC, we can confirm the pregnancy is happening inside your uterus.
