Medication abortion cost

How much does the abortion pill cost?

There is no single reliable price for medication abortion. The total can vary by provider, location, how far the pregnancy has progressed, required visits or testing, follow-up care, insurance, and current law.

What may be included in the total

A quoted amount may cover only medication or may also include a consultation, ultrasound or laboratory work when indicated, written instructions, follow-up, and access to a clinician for questions. Ask for a written explanation of what is included and what could create another charge.

  • The provider visit and medication
  • Testing or imaging when medically indicated or legally required
  • Follow-up to confirm the abortion is complete
  • Treatment if more medication or a procedure is needed
  • Travel, time away from work, or child care

Timing and location affect access

ACOG notes that the cost and complexity of abortion care can increase as a pregnancy progresses. Florida currently limits when and how abortion care can be provided, including a general prohibition after six weeks with specific exceptions and in-person requirements for medication abortion.

Because legal requirements can change, confirm the current law and the provider's complete process before relying on a price found online.

Questions to ask before paying

Ask whether the provider and dispensing pharmacy are properly licensed or certified, what happens if the pregnancy is outside the approved timing, what follow-up is included, how urgent concerns are handled, and whether a refund policy applies if care cannot proceed.

A low online price does not by itself confirm that a product is FDA-approved or that medical support is available. The FDA advises using the legitimate U.S. drug supply chain.
