What happens at a pregnancy test appointment?

Your visit begins with a private conversation about the first day of your last period and when you took, or plan to take, a test. One of our medical professionals will guide you through the process and answer your questions.

The urine test checks for human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). If the result is positive, you can talk through possible next steps. A positive pregnancy test does not show where the pregnancy is located, how far along it is, or whether it is developing as expected.

When should I take a pregnancy test?

Testing after a missed period usually gives a clearer result than testing very early. A negative result can be wrong when the test is taken too soon. Follow the test directions, and repeat the test after several days or about a week if your period does not begin.

If two home tests are negative and you still think you may be pregnant, contact a licensed medical professional.
